CABLE BACKED BOWS |
A fascinating 'primitive' bow design created by bowhunters in extremely cold climates - as in Siberia or Alaska- where glues tended to fail and bowmaking materials were not generally of the best quality. A system of knots and cordage (originally sinew) acts as a backing and 'bind' the bow together, tightening as the bow is drawn. While this isn't strictly necessary when good bow-wood is used, the cable assists bow longevity and performance by moving the neutral axis and reducing string follow. The pictured bow is made from Ash, and is decorated with natural pigments. The cable is made from coloured Dacron. PRICES FROM £320 |
